A security perimeter is set up by the police. Firefighters cannot enter the premises immediately for fear of further explosions. A demining team is called in to inspect the plant by helicopter. The authorities use a robot to access the site safely. The intervention lasts 4 days.

Three employees died in the explosion. The storage buildings (made of reinforced concrete with a monolithic earth-covered ceiling) are damaged. The area affected by the explosion is cleaned up.

Human error during the transfer would be at the origin of the untimely initiation of the explosives and then detonation.

Following the accident, the operator set up procedures for handling and transferring explosives (definition of transfer device routes). La The company has already experienced fatal explosions in 1967 (8 dead and 22 injured) and in 2003.
