A thermofluid ignites at 10:20 on a tower 46 m high in a unit separating zirconium / hafnium trichloride belonging to a zirconium processing plant. Heavy smoke is visible from the upper floors of the workshop. The fire spread to the insulation and electrical cables of the tower. The emergency plan is triggered, the employees are evacuated and a team confines the thermofluid through a vacuum system, while others apply the emergency procedures. An external witness alerts the public firefighters service which is on site with 50 men, 2 trucks, 2 ladders and 2 specialized teams (chemical and radiological , as a radioactive source of cobalt is located at the top of the tower ). They don’t have to fight the fire as the plant security team and the one of a nearby chemical plant have already extinguished the fire in 30 minutes , by using powder extinguishers. The radioactive team performs radiological recognition, and notes that the source has not been not affected by the fire, a control of the 15 employees who have fighted the fire do not show radioactive contamination. Another specialized team climb up the tower to make holes in the insulation and finish the extinction. No victim or environmental damage are reported ( water was not used). The plant operator issues a press release.
