One Sunday at around 7.30 pm, a fire broke out in a metal surface treatment company housing 290 m³ of baths (hexavalent chromium and cyanide, etc.) in PVC tanks. A significant amount of smoke was released. Around thirty gendarmes (French military police) set up a safety perimeter and 150 residents overlooking the industrial area were evacuated. Traffic on CD 151 and 921 was interrupted. Substantial human and equipment resources (90 firefighters, 16 vehicles) from 9 fire stations were mobilised to control the fire. The fire was extinguished at 9.30 pm using 3 large nozzles and 1 foam nozzle. The emergency services carried out water analyses in the GRENNE river and air analyses which proved to be negative; no health or environmental impact was noted. The evacuated residents went home at around midnight. 80% of the 1,000 m² building was destroyed but the metal structure did not collapse; 110 employees were possibly placed on technical unemployment. The fire extinguishing water contained on the site was pumped by a specialist company. The firefighters organised site monitoring during the night. The gendarmerie (French military police) carried out an investigation.

A malfunction during the restart of the bath heating system (every Sunday evening) may have caused the accident. In 2004, the fire that occurred in this establishment (ARIA 26299) could have also been caused by a treatment tank heating system malfunction.
