A natural hazard (flood, earthquake, forest fire, storm, ground motion, avalanche, cyclone, extreme cold, heat wave …) can have an impact on an industrial installation and thus be the source of one or series of accidents with major effects outside the site on people, property or the environment. This is called a “NaTech” accident, a contraction of natural and technological words. Its consequences can be direct (material damage: buildings, equipment, installations …) or indirect (social, business interruption, loss of market …) as illustrated in the following fact sheet.
