At around 9.15 pm, a passer-by saw smoke coming from a Non-hazardous Waste Storage Facility (NWSF). The fire brigade, on the spot 15 minutes later, fight the fire of 100 m² on the surface of a locker in operation. The suction of the biogas recovery system is stopped to prevent the flames from being sucked into the lower layers of the waste. Only the surface waste is burnt. The emergency services connect to the fire reserve and extinguish the fire 1 hour after arrival. Watering continues for another 1 hour with water mixed with a foamer. The fire brigade leaves the site at 12.30 am after checking the absence of hot spots with a thermal camera. The operator carries out control rounds during the night. When the site reopens, potentially combustible waste is removed and covered with 20 cm of fill.

According to the operator, the cause of the fire could be linked either to the presence of flammable products in the waste, which would have self-ignited due to the high heat, or to a malicious act.

The operator is considering the installation of a thermal camera with alarm.
