The floating roofs on 2 tanks sank in a petroleum depot during a hurricane. One of the tanks was damaged. Hydrocarbons were released into the tank’s retaining basin. The corresponding release of volatile organic compounds into the atmosphere was estimated at 178 t. The employees deployed foam mats onto the spilt products. They then began pumping the retention basin and transferring product from the 2 damaged tanks to other storage tanks. This hurricane resulted in numerous accidents in the region (ARIA 50399).
