A fire broke out at around noon in a bag filter of a grain silo. An employee noticed the smoke and alerted his supervisor, who alerted the public firefighters. The firefighters brought the fire under control with a nozzle and left at 2:45 p.m.

According to the operator, the accident was caused by the failure of a bearing on the elevator used to transfer grain into the storage bins. The failed bearing ignited dust drawn into the bag filter, where they burned. The bearing and the filter bags were replaced; the dust filter was cleaned. The operator performs preventive maintenance on the equipment and cleans the filter before the summer harvests (wheat, barley) and after the autumn harvests (sunflower seeds). It has since instituted a third maintenance period, which takes place between these two harvests. This maintenance and cleaning work is documented in a procedure.
