A fire broke out around 7:40 p.m. in the flammable liquids storage of a plastics plant, containing 5300 kg of furfuryl alcohol and 1400 kg of naphtha. The alarm started and the emergency site and firefighters were alerted. They could not enter in the building because of the abundant smoke, that is why they broke windows and installed a ventilator at the entrance. A firefighter had been injured by projections of furfuryl alcohol. At 8:40 p.m. the air-gas mixture was ignited, the explosion following causing the collapse of the roof and of a part of the side wall. Firefighters got information on the products contained in the warehouse at 9:00 p.m.. They extinguished the fire on the roof with hoses of water and on the chemical with flammable foam, they mastered fire at 11:30 p.m. and left the plant at 8 a.m. the next day. Smokes from the fire should not have threatened residents. After excavation of the rubble, soil samples were analyzed. The damage is estimated at € 600 000.
