Fire broke out in the waste receptacles of the control and design laboratory during their internal onsite transport. Two receptacles were loaded onto the vehicle platform, one containing aluminium powder the other residues of iron oxide, chromate, bichromate and zinc oxide. Other varied wastes were already present on the site (including compound propellants, homogeneous SD propellant, aerobic propellant containing MG, bags and small plastic containers, etc.). A mix of incompatible products, with a slow decomposition of the pyrotechnic product (e.g. in the presence of water) or friction on more vulnerable products could have caused the fire. The technicians noticed the fire and left the vehicle. Combustion of the entire set of wastes damaged the vehicle platform and hatches, as well as the back of the cab.
