Fire broke out around noon at the level of an electrical duct on a printing ink tank placed in the vicinity of solvent tanks in a building at a paint and varnish factory. A subcontractor had been working in this zone, overseen by company personnel. These works were completed and the jobsite was being cleaned when the flames appeared. The internal emergency plan was launched and the fire quickly brought under control thanks to both outstanding personnel reactivity (internal fire response team and an external firm) and activation of the sprinklers (foam-based extinction system). All employees in the affected zone were evacuated. Upon arrival of external fire-fighters, the fire was already under control, but these responders remained onsite to record explosibility measurements. This incident caused no damage.

Cutting work was responsible for the fire outbreak: while works were ongoing, sparks generated from cutting the iron on a concrete girder most likely landed on rags inadvertently left under the racks of an electrical cable path (space between floor and rack: 5 cm). The fire smouldered for 1 hour. Subsequent to this incident, the operator planned on improving workshop cleaning practices, especially in areas with limited accessibility. A feasibility study was also scheduled to verify the possibility of raising the cable path racks.
