Starting at 7:26 am, a raging fire engulfed a plant manufacturing resin objects (gifts, light fittings, trophies, etc.) using various chemical substances: polyesters, epoxy, polyurethane, elastomers, acetone, styrene, etc. The 400 m² premises affected, in operation since 2004, were located at the end of a building situated within a complex housing several companies. Five of the company’s employees and 21 people working in a factory located a few hundred metres from the site of the accident were overcome by the thick smoke released. A safety perimeter was set up. Significant human resources and equipment were mobilised: 44 fire-fighters, and 11 vehicles, etc. The emergency services intervened for 2 hours to assess the situation then protect the buildings close to the accident and control the fire. Monitoring was maintained for a further 4 hours. The rooms were ventilated. The air analyses carried out were negative. The drums of hazardous substances that were stored outside of the workshop were not damaged. The room, whose metal structure was deformed by the heat, was destroyed. Driven by the wind, this heat also melted the smoke vents of the neighbouring premises. The fire wall that reached the shared roof without protruding from it prevented the fire from spreading to an adjacent company. However this company suffered slight water damage due to to the run-off of some of the fire extinguishing water from the roof.
