A fire broke out in a panel manufacturing plant inside a wood slab dryer powered by superheated steam. The employees controlled the fire using hoses. The 80 employees were evacuated.

A worker suffering from smoke inhalation was hospitalised. The dryer was shut down for the 4 days required for its repair.

After the incident, the operator detected friction in the dryer between the blades and the housing of a fan used for blowing hot air. According to the Inspection Authorities for Classified Facilities, this friction may have caused a rise in temperature and sparks that could have started a fire on the wood veneer sheets. The operator improved its emergency response equipment by equipping the staff with 2 self-contained breathing apparatuses (SCBA).
