A fire broke out at 2:00 pm during an oil quenching operation in a foundry. A basket containing steel parts heated to 900 °C was accidentally stuck while being lowered, jammed, tipped over and came into contact with the surface of the oil bath, which immediately ignited. The treatment tank – mobile since a similar accident – was immediately moved to the sandblasting area outside the building. The operators were unable to extinguish the burning tank using a powder extinguisher. Fire-fighters controlled the fire using foam, a small amount of which spilled into the River INDRE. The incident was caused by the incorrect guidance of the basket containing parts to be treated. The operator has stopped performing this activity, which will now be subcontracted.
