A heat wave at night caused the death of 1,560 of the 15,000 turkeys exposed to a temperature above 37°C in a poultry farmer’s 2 henhouses. The complete absence of circulating air proved fatal, even though doors were opened and the building was continuously sprinkled. Temperature inside the building was still as high as 36°C at 11 pm.

Four days later, another 273 turkeys perished despite the farmer’s use of water from a neighbouring pond to repeatedly spray the building.
