Notified by a local resident, gendarmes observed a whitish material polluting the NEGUES-CAT stream. A search carried out on-site tied this pollution to the overflow of a batch defect at an elastomer plant. According to the plant operator, these defective runs were typically emptied into a 200-litre barrel in the plant courtyard; on this day, the barrel was not in place since the courtyard was being resurfaced. Upon request of the classified facilities inspection authorities, a specialised firm was called to pump the wastes. Material recovery was completed around 11:30 am the next day. Inspection authorities emphasised the need to eliminate any connection pipe running between the workshop and the NEGUES-CAT.
