Following the rupture of a crude oil pipeline due to corrosion (water that had seeped through the insulation), 1,600 l of crude oil spill ; oil was carried by the wind and polluted an area of 15×6 m of tundra. Because the ruptured flow line is used by several wells, production at an entire pad had to be shut down during repair works. The most contaminated spot are surrounded with boom and rinsed repeatedly with water ; a weed burner will be used to remove the vegetation of the lightly contaminated area.
