At a glassworks, a leak of light fuel oil occurred on an underground metal pipeline, connected to 3 tanks used for supplying furnaces, representing a total volume of 45 m³. The hydrocarbon spill polluted the company’s aqueous discharge and consequently the Morte Eau River. A floating boom was installed on the river and absorbent products were applied to prevent the pollution from spreading. No consequences on aquatic fauna were recorded, as less than 1 m³ of hydrocarbons were involved. Heavy pipeline corrosion caused this incident. The Classified Facilities Inspectorate noted the facts. The 3 fuel oil tanks were replaced by an underground tank available onsite. To complete this replacement step, the 3 tanks were drained via a temporary aboveground pipeline and pollution debris was stored in barrels while awaiting removal for treatment by a specialised firm.
