A spectacular fire destroyed an outside warehouse at a paper mill, containing 5,000 t of bales of paper used for producing kraft paper and a paraffin storage area (4 to 5 t of blocks and 1.5 to 2 t in drums). The flames spread over an area of 3,000 m², aided by the wind and the extremely dryness of the paper. Thick black smoke could be seen within a radius of several kilometres. The Clermont-Ferrand/Nîmes railway line and traffic on D229 and D136 minor roads were stopped for 2 hours. More than 70 fire-fighters implemented an extensive operation (21 vehicles and 15 hoses) to protect the production buildings and contained the fire at 5:30 pm.

None of the employees was injured, but 8 fire-fighters suffered from minor smoke inhalation. Although none of the production plant was damaged by the fire, 70 of the 187 employees were temporarily laid off while the site was being restocked with raw materials.
