Placed directly on the surface of the liquid, the floating roof of a storage tank allows the reduction of emission by evaporation of certain products by the gaseous sky and thus limits the chronic atmospheric pollution generated by the most volatile products. These economic and ecological advantages have contributed to their development, in particular for the storage of liquids with high vapor pressure, such as certain crude oils, naphthas or gasolines. The accidentology of the floating roof tanks confirms the need to pay attention to their operation and maintenance. These main points are developed in this fact sheet.
