At a facility specialised in renovating gas cisterns (degassing, washing, painting), a 2.3-m³ tank exploded during welding work. One worker was propelled 10 m and away died, 5 other employees sustained slight injuries and had to be hospitalised. A third of the 5,000-m² building was destroyed. The spherical tank was broken into 5 pieces, with a distinct split in the structure observed along its diameter. A safety perimeter was set up and an investigation conducted. The tank was likely containing gas or methanol.
