The operator of a lorry-mounted crane positioned his vehicle in order to handle heavy construction components used in the building of a drilling rig at a salt works. The crane operator withdrew the outriggers on one side to allow another lorry to pass and be unloaded. At the same time, he noticed a hydraulic-fluid leak on the boom of his truck and repaired it. He then checked the repair by moving the boom. This or the excessive listing created by the outrigger jacks on the vehicle’s passenger side, caused the lorry-mounted crane to overturn onto the driver’s side. The crane operator jumped out of cab, fracturing the malleolus, tibia, and fibula of his right leg.
