A fire broke out at around 9:10 p.m. in a 110 m² standalone building used for contractors and to store materials. The building is located at a cosmetics plant. The fire was discovered by the caretaker, who as per the fire procedure, had the premises evacuated, shut off the sump pumps, and cut off the electricity supply. The building housed a number of materials, including flammable liquids and cylinders of acetylene. The firefighters extinguished the fired at 1:00 a.m. The 80 m³ of extinguishing water used was collected on site. The following day, and after analyses were conducted, the water agency authorised the operator of the plant to gradually dump the extinguishing water into the rainwater network. The inspection authorities for classified facilities were informed of the fire, which was caused by a hot spot from welding work performed in the damaged area one hour before the fire broke out. Apparently, a hot-work permit was not issued for this welding work. The operator reorganised the way work is conducted by contractors. It built a building reserved for hot work and fitted it out with smoke detectors. It also drew up a list of products stored on site by contractors. Lastly, it improved the accessibility to its 500 m³ fire-water pond and stored 6 m³ of emulsifying agents on the site.
