Around 10 am, an LPG tanker driver sustained burns to his calf by a burst of liquid propane while connecting the transfer hose to his client’s gas tank. He missed a week of work. According to the transport firm, the driver was irritated by a malfunctioning remote control (scrambled by a relay antenna) that prevented delivery and by difficulties aligning and screwing the filling gun to the tank. He tried jerking the gun, which caused it to open ejecting the LPG. Other factors cited included: excessive hose stiffness due mainly to adverse weather conditions (-15 °C) and insufficient unreeling of the hose. The firm’s manager reminded the driver of proper techniques and stances for delivering LPG, in addition to scheduling hose replacement by smaller items and asking his client to modify access so as to avoid remote control malfunctions.
