A fire broke out at 6:15 in a 6000 sqm warehouse made of 2 concrete floors and containing household chemicals and furnitures. The fire alarm call came at 6:17. The doors of the building are closed, impeding the employees on duty to escape and the rescue team to enter. In addition, the owner of the warehouse is unable to provide an accurate list of the employees working at the time of the accident. The 127 firefighters, who came with 47 fire engines and ambulances, extinguish the fire at 7:35. The toll is 16 dead, 2 injured by burns and 1 missing. The search of the missing employees only starts the day after, given that the safety of the rescue team can not be guaranteed until the arrival of fire experts. A criminal investigation for “violation of safety rules on fires resulting in death of 2 or more people through negligence ” is opened by the local authorities.
