In an industrial explosives factory, a detonation occurred around 11:50 am during a destruction operation by means of burning emulsion explosive cartridges recovered from a failed firing; 2 technicians were killed (perhaps by being posted an insufficient distance from the burning zone?).

The abnormal presence of a detonator among the cartridges intended for destruction would have caused the accident. Experts recalled the extreme importance of precision and compliance with procedures and operating instructions, especially involving verification of the absence of any residual detonator and respect of the mandated safety distances.
