At around 7 pm, a explosives lorry containing 800 kg of emulsions crossed an articulated lorry on the 964 secondary road, which was “slightly” curved in this area. The articulated lorry had a metallic bar that extended far beyond its approved clearance limits, and this hit the lorry violently several times before falling to the ground. The articulated lorry driver did not stop (failure to stop at the scene of an accident).

The violent impact cut through the sheet metal as well as the wood finish inside the explosives lorry; several cardboard packages were damaged and the cartridge emulsion explosives perforated. Given that emulsion is much less sensitive than dynamite, no pyrotechnic reaction took place. The same accident with dynamite would most likely have caused more damage. The inherently safer nature of emulsion was confirmed by this incident (no reaction from a strong impact/shock on the explosive or from the friction explosives/metal). The operator filed a complaint against unknown persons the next day and distributed information within the company (especially drivers) to remind them of road risks.
