A drinking water pipe was punctured around 4 pm during removal of a former underground fuel oil tank. Traces of hydrocarbon were detected in the drinking water distribution network. Onsite workers clogged the leaks yet neglected to alert emergency services. The next morning around 9:30 am, several local residents complained about abnormal odours. Water department crew isolated the network, depriving service to 12 residences (20 inhabitants), and 54 residents of a home for disabled adults lost their drinking water supply. Responders distributed bottles of mineral water for consumption and cisterns of non-potable water for the lavatories. The water crew cleaned the network, which would only be placed back into service at the end of the week at the earliest. Analyses were also programmed on a regular basis.
