Inside an ordnance production plant being closed definitively, a fire broke out mid-morning on 5 tonnes of older propellants containing nitrocellulose and scheduled for destruction. The location of the warehouse allayed any fear over the consequences outside the site. All individuals present on the site were evacuated. Fire-fighters focused on a number of smaller residual outbreaks around the wood pallets. The building was destroyed yet no victims were reported.

Given the age of some of the powders involved, the hypothesis of a major loss of chemical stability in one of the powders present was considered the most plausible. The isolation distances between buildings, as well as the nearby vegetation, played a protective role as was expected. This accident underscored the importance of controlling on a regular basis the stability of all propellants.
