An electrical fire broke out at 12.40 pm in the central electrical distribution substation on a 20 kV incoming feeder. The site was powered by two 90 KV electric lines connected to two 90/20 kV transformers respectively powering two 20 kV lines. Furthermore, a turbine generator produced 20 kV. The internal emergency plan was activated with mobilisation of all related resources except mutual assistance. This incident resulted in total blackout of the refinery and subsequently of the production of steam. The fire was brought under control by the emergency team using powder extinguishers.

The production teams carried out safe shutdown of the units. Nevertheless, burning over one hour generated significant plumes of smoke. However, no impact was reported by the local air pollution monitoring authority (ATMO network). The fire was put out at 2.30 pm. The emergency response procedures helped save a 20 kV electric power plant. 6 days after the fire, the shipping of products was resumed. The entire refinery was restarted a little less than 3 weeks later, but the operator took advantage of this shutdown to carry out work that was planned for a later date. It took several months for the electrical installations to resume their normal operation. The economic assessment was between 15 and 20 million euros (3.5 for the shutdown costs and the rest due to loss of production).
