In a wood packaging plant, a violent fire broke out at an exterior storage zone containing 3,600 m³ of pallets (stacked 6 m high). The plant operator sustained burns to the face, hands and forearms while removing pallets. Specialised units shut down the site’s electricity supply. Fire-fighters had the blaze extinguished in 1 hr 40 min using 5 nozzles. Many pallets were entirely destroyed; moreover, a fence, phone line, roller shutters, offices and a loader vehicle were all damaged. Notified by fire-fighters, Classified Facilities inspectors conducted an investigation revealing that wastes had been burned in the immediate vicinity of the ignition spot; they recorded their findings and proposed the issue of an official warning for the operator to comply with prescriptions listed in the Prefectural authorisation order.
