A container was accidentally punctured by the fork of a forklift truck during unloading of liquid dye applicators in a plant making paper mill equipment ; 800 litres of product spilled on the ground, a portion of which reached the storm drain network and the FURE River. Fire-fighters noticed a bluing of the river, yet without causing any fish mortality. According to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) fact sheet provided by the plant operator, the dye contained 2 % to 3 % caustic soda and 12 % to 16 % of a copper-based product, though no risk was apparent to either the river’s flora or fauna.
