Around 9 pm at a meat processing plant, heavy smoke was released from a 2,500 sq.m. refrigerated warehouse. Fire-fighters encountered major difficulties first in entering and then moving around inside the building, which was ventilated by means of two existing openings. The fire had ignited on the building’s insulation sandwich panels. The emergency intervention lasted 2 hours following alarm activation. Subsequent to this accident, 30 employees had to be laid off for an indefinite period. No indications were provided as regards the ultimate damage incurred by the refrigeration installations, which had apparently made use of a chloro-fluoro refrigerant.
