Around 4 pm, while performing welding work, a violent fire engulfed a warehouse storing large quantities of wood and foam. When spreading, the flames destroyed half of an adjoining 1,000 sq.m. warehouse containing foodstuffs. A thick cloud of smoke made it necessary to halt traffic on the rail line running to the dock facility. The police, gas and electricity supply intervention teams arrived on the scene. The emergency response mobilised more than 120 fire-fighters and considerable equipment (35 vehicles dispatched from 14 fire stations). The fire was contained at 5:47 pm and declared extinguished at 6:43 pm. No indications were provided regarding either the presence of refrigeration installations or any eventual damage they would have incurred.
