On 1 November at 9.30 pm, the supervisor of a dehydration installation at a food-processing plant noted that a fan motor bearing was heating up on line D30. After examining the motor, he decided to slow down production to prevent the bearing from breaking and planned to replace it the next morning with the maintenance team. At 12:30 am on 2 November, the temperature sensor detected an abnormal rise in the flour filter of this dehydration line. The supervisor immediately went on site, noted an outbreak of fire in the filter, immediately shut down the installation and opened the steam valves located in the filter to extinguish the fire. The fire was controlled at 1 am and the external emergency services did not need to be alerted. Property damage was reported, but there were no casualties. The establishment plans to shut down the line for 24 hours, direct the pulp towards other dehydration units and towards the silage, improve the fire procedure, and establish a procedure to monitor the temperature of the fans concerned.
