An employee forgot to turn off a tap when filling a wood treatment tank. The operation continued throughout the night until it overflowed, which triggered the alarm in the workshop. As the plant was closed at night, the water intake was only turned off the next morning when the staff arrived. The water from the treatment bath entered LACHUER lake causing the death of 2 young carp.

The administration has drawn up a report establishing the facts. The inspection authorities recommended that the Prefect issue an emergency order requiring the operator to produce a detailed report of the accident (causes, circumstances, provisions taken before resuming the workshop’s activity and measures implemented to prevent any recurrence), and to use an approved laboratory to evaluate the product’s behaviour (biodegradability, evaporation and sedimentation) taking account of its toxicity in relation to the aquatic fauna and flora, and monitor of the lake for a period of 1 month.
