Shortly after 9 pm, a violent explosion destroyed a 600 m² treenware factory specialising in the manufacture of wooden walking sticks. The manager was cleaning a varnish drip tray when the friction between 2 metal parts generated a spark which ignited the solvents. Despite the operator’s efforts, the fire rapidly spread on contact with the highly flammable products. The accumulation of combustion gases caused the explosion that blast through the building during the intervention by the fire-fighters. No one was hurt during the accident but the small company suffered significant losses: the production plant and the stock of finished products (€30,000) were destroyed and 4 employees were temporarily laid off for over a month.
