A fire of unknown origin broke out at 6:45 pm on a storage rack in an automotive parts depot. Two sprinklers were activated and an alarm sounded in the building two minutes later. The 50 employees were evacuated from the premises. At 6.50 pm, the monitoring staff alerted the fire-fighters, the fire doors of the unit were closed and smoke ejection units were opened. As soon as the site’s retention system was closed in order to contain the fire extinguishing water, the first aid hose system was activated. Fire-fighters intervened at 7:15 pm. After assessing the situation, they took the burnt boxes outside. Business was allowed to resume at around 7:30 pm. The metal shelving was damaged in localised areas, 8 part references were destroyed by the fire and 160 of them were soaked. The internal material damage amounted to €6,500. With the agreement of the inspection authorities for classified facilities, the fire extinguishing water was analysed and discharged with the stormwater (total volume of 45 m³). The efficient operation of sprinklers and various monitoring station alarms (sprinklers, manual activators and first aid hose systems) allowed the fire to be quickly brought under control by the site’s own equipment.
