Inside a silo, a large quantity of wheat (910 tonnes) spread at the beginning of the afternoon subsequent to the mechanical failure of the structure of one of 4 metal storage cells (diameter: 10.7 m; height: 17.8 m) built in 1985 and reinforced 2 years later. No victims were reported.

The next morning, the silo operator notified Inspection Authorities for classified facilities though failed to specify that the accident had damaged the handling tower, in burying the grain reception pits and destroying a cell containing ammonium nitrates (1050 tonnes) within a fertiliser storage building. 5 days later, a third party informed authorities that blowpipe cutting works were being performed on the ammonium nitrates. An unannounced inspection revealed: use of a blowpipe on a mound of spread wheat adjacent to the fertiliser, the absence of an on-site manager, insufficient fire extinction resources (just 1 relatively inaccessible extinguisher), and non-compliance with hot work permitting guidelines. Inspectors noted these facts. Subsequent to their visit, the operator ceased all hot spot works and agreed to set up permanent site monitoring to detect the onset of fire, in addition to equipping workstations with appropriate extinction equipment and transporting the ammonium nitrates to dedicated facilities. According to the operator, the tearing of a sidewall with sheet metal attachment points on a column had caused this accident. Experts were retained to confirm this hypothesis. The damage of the accident was estimated at €540,000.
