At 7h15, a deflagration occurred on a conveyor belt during the trial run of a co-generation power plant. At 7h13, the CO concentrations increased suddenly firstly downstream of a filter, then upstream (7h14), then on the conveyor belt above, leading in less than 1 min to a deflagration and fire. The explosion protection flaps of the conveyor system, in the line between conveyor system and filter housing and on the external wall of the filter housing opened. The fire brigade was alerted and attacked the fire with foam at 7h25. The intense fire of the head station of the conveyor system and the melting of aluminium of the external wall complicated the fire fighting operations. The insulation material under the covering kept mostly intact avoiding the fire to spread over to the boiler house. ; The fire was extinguished by 16h15.

The conveyor system and the filter installation were destroyed, adjacent buildings were damaged. The costs are evaluated at 0.5 M euros.

The origin of the accident is unknown. A temperature rise had been noticed in the main silos during the night from 01/05 to 02/05, leading to an automatic inerting of the atmosphere with nitrogen and subsequent discharge.
