A fire triggering a series of explosions broke out in the arms depot of a military base. Lightning is believed to be the cause of the accident. It might have struck the building housing the shell storage site that subsequently caught fire. Five soldiers are reported missing and one seriously injured. Five other soldiers who were in the basement of the shed were unharmed. During the explosion, the flying splinters were projected several kilometres away. Nearly 3,000 residents were evacuated.
