In a company whose activity consisted of producing a range of products including explosives, 2 railway cars of ammonium nitrate (99.5 % purity with 0.3% water and some inorganic impurities) were to be discharged. The 30 tonnes of ammonium nitrate were however so dense that it was decided to disaggregate the bulk load by means of blasting. The operation caused the detonation of the contents of two wagons and the formation of a funnel-shaped crater 20 m in diameter. The human toll came to 19 deaths.
